Ending your day in a spirit of thanksgiving

An essential part of Click To Pray is ending the day with a short time of prayer, often thinking about the many moments that took place. It is important to conduct such an examination in a spirit of thanksgiving, recognizing the many graces that God has given us. This helps quiet our heart and keep it in a state of peace.

Whatever may have happened during the day, focusing on God’s presence in our lives helps us see the bigger picture. It reassures us that God is in control and that we always have much to be thankful for.

A scene from a popular movie called White Christmas, featuring actor Bing Crosby, illustrates this reality perfectly. During the movie two characters are discussing the best way to fall asleep, especially when a person’s spirit is restless.

Bing Crosby’s character goes on to provide his solution by singing a song.

“When I’m worried and I can’t sleep,

I count my blessings instead of sheep,

And I fall asleep counting my blessings.

When my bankroll is getting small,

I think of when I had none at all,

And I fall asleep counting my blessings.

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads,

And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds.

If you’re worried and you can’t sleep,

Just count your blessings instead of sheep,

And you’ll fall asleep counting your blessings.”

This is a perfect way to end the day and puts everything that happened during the day into perspective.
