After five years as national director of the Pope’s Prayer Network [Apostleship of Prayer], Fr Joe Laramie SJ will be moving west for a new assignment. He will be the new director of Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat in Sedalia, CO on August 1, 2025.
Fr Joe taught at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, CO 2005-08. Two of his former students are now diocesan priests in Colorado. He led a retreat for Archdiocese of Denver priests in 2022.
Provincial Fr Tom Greene SJ noted that Laramie brings “great gifts to retreat ministry.” Fr Joe said, “I’ve loved my time at the Pope’s Prayer Network. It’s been a joy and honor to travel our beautiful country offering talks and retreats on the Sacred Heart and the monthly intentions of the Holy Father. And we Jesuits are ‘men on mission.’ I love Colorado. And, I’m excited to go to Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat and continue preaching about the Sacred Heart, centered in Ignatian spirituality. We’re adding Fr Phil Hurley SJ and Grace Urbanski to our staff; Jocelyn Marin continues. So, we have a great team.”
The new Jesuit national director of the Pope’s Prayer Network will be named by Jesuit leadership in the spring. The Pope’s Prayer Network [Apostleship of Prayer] is a 175-year-old spiritual mission uniting hearts to the Heart of Jesus in the heart of the Church, based in Milwaukee.
Fr Joe served as a National Preacher for the Eucharistic Revival, preparing for the Eucharistic Congress. As national director, he led retreats for priests, seminarians, women and young adults. He entered the Jesuits in 2000 and was ordained in 2011. He previously taught at two all-boys high schools, served as a college campus minister, and ministered in Mayan villages in Belize. He is featured on the Hallow app, EWTN, Busted Halo, and in America magazine.
He is the author of two books:
Abide in the Heart of Christ: a 10-Day Personal Retreat with St Ignatius Loyola, based on the Spiritual Exercises
Love Him Ever More: a 9-Day Personal Retreat with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, based on the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius Loyola
