As we celebrate the Month of the Sacred Heart, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archdiocese of New York, has offered a simple, powerful reminder: begin each day with the Morning Offering.
In his message, Cardinal Dolan encouraged the faithful to renew their devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus this June. “Do you know what the morning offering is?” he asks with his characteristic warmth. “First thing in the day, we make the Sign of the Cross and offer the day to the Lord.”
This humble act, one that takes less than a minute, has long been promoted by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network (PWPN) as a daily spiritual practice. By beginning our day with the Morning Offering, we unite our prayers, works, joys, and sufferings with the Sacred Heart of Jesus, uniting our everyday lives to God’s redeeming work in the world.
The Heart of the Mission
The Morning Offering is more than just a prayer—it’s a way of living. It transforms ordinary moments into opportunities for grace. Offering our day to the Lord connects us more deeply to God’s love and mercy. This is the very heart of the devotion to the Sacred Heart: to let Christ’s heart transform our hearts and to offer that love to others.
For over 175 years, PWPN (formerly the Apostleship of Prayer) has helped Catholics live this mission. Rooted in devotion to the Sacred Heart, the network invites the faithful to pray each day for the Holy Father’s monthly intentions and to become “apostles of prayer” in their homes, parishes, and communities.
Christ’s Daily Invitation
In a world of distractions, the Morning Offering centers us in Christ. It reminds us that each moment—whether joyful, challenging, or mundane—can be an offering to God.
So this June, as we honor the Sacred Heart, take Cardinal Dolan’s advice: first thing in the day, make the Sign of the Cross and offer the day to the Lord. Let that simple gesture unite you with Catholics around the world who are praying and living in communion with the Heart of Jesus.
And if you’re not sure how to begin, here is the traditional version of the Morning Offering:
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
I offer you my prayers, works, joys and sufferings of this day
for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart,
in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world,
for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins,
the reunion of all Christians,
and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen.
