Angels are here to help us be messengers of God’s love

Oct 9, 2018 | Philip Kosloski

October is a month traditionally dedicated to our Guardian Angels, whose feast we celebrate on Oct. 2. This celebration reminds us that we’re not alone in this world and we have spiritual helpers at our side.

It’s an important reality that we often ignore. We don’t see angels hovering around us, so we naturally forget about them. However, they can have a big impact on our lives if we let them.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states regarding angels:

“From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. ‘Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.’ Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God” (CCC 336).

The Church here highlights the Guardian Angel’s role as “protector and shepherd leading [us] to life.” Shepherd is a great image as it give us an idea of how our Guardian Angels gently guide us to right pasture, teaching us how to be messengers of God’s love.

As we go about our day-to-day lives, we should take time to remember our heavenly companions and ask for their guidance and protection. They can help us in our daily struggle to be saints and can assist us in our Daily Offering. They know better than us the many challenges facing humanity and can direct our hearts to the many suffering souls of this world.

With this in mind, as we join our daily prayers to the Pope’s intentions for this month, let us ask the help of our Guardian Angel.
