October 17 – Thursdays from the Heart

Today we reflected on this upcoming Sunday Gospel, the sons of Zebedee eager to get to Jesus and ask for a place in heaven, one on his right and the other on his left. Yet the Lord reminded them and continues to remind us “You do not know what you are asking” how many times do we ask for something in prayer without fully grasping what we ask. The Lords will be done, always. Sometimes the Lord’s will is way different than what we expect, and his answers to our prayers may look very different, are our hearts open to that? To God’s will to be done in our lives?

Russ shared about a young girl in his area who has cancer and how people from his community offer up any suffering for this young girl, and in the hope of her healing. How often do we offer up our sufferings, inconveniences, and struggles for those whom we know are suffering even more greatly, or for our loved ones who we know are struggling mentally, emotionally, and spiritually? There is great power in prayer! Thank you for praying with us, Apostles of Prayer.

We pray that the Church continue to sustain in all ways a Synodal lifestyle, as a sign of co-responsibility, promoting the participation, the communion and the mission shared among priests, religious and lay people.
